All Schools Are Opened At This Time...
Have A Great Day!
Parents, during an emergency or inclement weather, please visit RGAP'S and RCS websites for updates on schools delayed opening and closings.
When the schools have a scheduled change (closing or delayed opening) due to inclement weather or other emergencies, relevant information pertaining to school delayed openings or closure will be communicated as soon as the decision is made, via this web page. Notices are also posted on our school compound, please take the time to read all notices on the school compound.
WHAT
IS THE PARENTS RESPONSIBILITY?
The
safety of your child is first and foremost! Conditions can change suddenly --
whether due to weather conditions or other emergencies. On days when the weather
is questionable but the schools are open, please feel free to exercise your parental
discretion. Teachers will be flexible in accepting late work under such conditions.
THE
CANCELLATION INCONVENIENCE
The decision to hold or cancel
school on a day of inclement weather or other emergencies is always a difficult
one. When we cancel school on a winter snow day, it means our students rejoice
but parents may have childcare inconvenience. If
we hold school on a difficult weather day, that may cause
students to slip on snow and ice and get hurt on their way to or from
school. During an emergency, for example, if there is no heat, A/C or light,
we will not be able to open our facilities.
RGAP'S and RCS staff will let the safety of our children guide our decision-making with regard to snow days, etc. We ask all parents to make emergency alternative childcare arrangements should the day come when the children have no school and parents or guardians must report to work.
Thank you for planning in advance.
WHAT FACTORS
ARE CONSIDERED WHEN MAKING THE DECISION TO CLOSE SCHOOL?
The safety of all district children is our primary concern in making our decision.
In deciding whether children will be safe, we look at the following factors:
Information on road conditions
Time snow starts to accumulate,
and the amount of snow expected
Weather predictions as to what is expected
later in the day
Building conditions (e.g. whether we have power and
heat)
Parking conditions
Temperature and wind-chill
Inclement

RCS are aware of the implications of opening school during less than perfect conditions
and of delaying or closing schools when poor weather conditions or other unforeseen
emergencies exist or are predicted. The school administrators understand that
students are better served--both academically and sociallyby being in school
but safety factors still stand.
On some occasions, the school system has been able to make a scheduling decision the day before so that parents, staff members, and students know what will happen the following day. However, weather prediction is an uncertain science and getting snow in winter is almost guaranteed also unforeseen emergencies are also unpredictable.
The administrators of RGAP and RCS who make the decisions know that often no perfect decision exists. What many parents, staff members, and students think about RGAP and RCS opening and closing decisions often is influenced by where they live, how they commute, what their child care situation is, and many other factors.
The school administrators hope that this explanation helps everyone understand the process and the steps administrators take to help RGAP and RCS make the best possible decisions. When everything is said and done, however, each parent should be prepared to make the best decision for his or her own child. If schools are open, but a parent does not believe it is safe for his or her child, the parent should keep the child at home.
You and your child's safely is also our concern and we take the best steps possible to ensure you keep safe and in good health.
Thank you.
